Team BMR are excited to announce former Ginetta Junior star Senna Proctor will return to Team BMR in association with Team Pyro to compete in the 2016 Renault UK Clio Cup Championship.
The 17 year old competed in the Ginetta Junior series in 2015 driving under the Team BMR banner, under the supervision of Team Owner and BTCC driver Warren Scott, in a bid to bring young British drivers through the TOCA support packages with a view to them progressing up the ladder. Warren commented “I am delighted that Senna is with us again this year and I’m really looking forward to another exciting season of the Renault UK Clio Cup. The team at Pyro did an outstanding job looking after Ashley Sutton in the Clio last year so I’m confident that between us we are capable of growing another champion in 2016.”
The next gradual step for Senna was to progress through to the Clio Cup having just missed out on the Ginetta Junior title last year after initially being crowned Champion at the final race at Brands Hatch GP circuit last October only to have the crown taken away from him when the race result was amended after a fellow competitor received a time penalty for a jump start. “I was very honoured to drive for BMR last year in my 2nd season in Ginetta Juniors, but for them to extend their deal with me for the next couple of years is fantastic news & a huge boost to my career as they guide me towards the BTCC Championship, it is an honour to race for such an incredible team & I’m looking forward to working with championship winning team, Team Pyro‘’ said Senna.
Senna has signed to pilot a race spec version of the Clio Renaultsport 220 Trophy and will be run by Team Pyro on what is expected to be a full grid again this year. Pyro boss Mark Hunt said “We have a two year plan for Senna to become Clio Cup Champion and from his performances’ in the junior TOCA support series I see this being possible. We will start with an intensive test programme and would like to hit the ground running come Brands in April. It helps that we are starting with a racer that understands the TOCA paddock and also has a sensible but sharp head on his shoulders.”
2016’s Renault UK Clio Cup are looking to build on an exceptional 2015 for the championship which celebrated its biggest grid sizes in two years and concluded with arguably the most dramatic title finale in its history with Team BMR/Pyro Driver Ashley Sutton taking the victory.
All 18 of the Clip Cup’s races will again take place at the high-profile Dunlop British Touring Car Championship’s events in 2016, meaning it’s drivers, teams and sponsors continue to enjoy unrivalled levels of exposure with huge trackside crowds and live TV coverage on ITV4.
2016’s Renault Clio Cup season launch will be held at Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire on Wednesday 23rdMarch.
